Community Coalition

Who We Are

The Ottawa County Prevention Coalition is a community coalition that uses multi-agency collaboration to help reduce barriers, provide education, provide linkage and support, raise awareness, and encourage healthy lifestyles in our community. The Coalition is funded by the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Seneca, Ottawa, Sandusky and Wyandot Counties. The Coalition was formed in 2021 and is composed of members from multiple sectors of the community. This collaborative approach allows for the coalition to focus on community mental health and addiction education, prevention services and enhanced advocacy efforts. Members unify their efforts and yield a structured planning process that promotes and encourages civic engagement. When goals are met within the community, we improve the overall quality of life for community residents.

Mission Statement:

The Ottawa County Prevention Coalition is a collaboration of resources, services, and agencies dedicated to removing barriers, providing education, raising awareness, and promoting healthy lifestyles related to mental health and substance use in Ottawa County.

Vision Statement:

The Ottawa County Prevention Coalition envisions a community where individuals and families thrive and where health and well-being are fully supported by county collaboration.

Initiatives

The Ottawa County Prevention Coalition is currently focused on three primary initiatives:

Substance Use Prevention

Promoting healthy behaviors and reducing the misuse of substances such as alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs through education, community outreach, and policy efforts.

Problem Gambling Prevention

Increasing awareness and reducing the risks of problem gambling through targeted campaigns, resources, and partnerships.

Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

Supporting mental wellness and preventing suicide by connecting residents to resources, raising awareness, providing educational presentations, and fostering a community of support.

Coalition Membership

Membership is open to anyone, especially those working with or serving Ottawa County residents. We meet quarterly as a full coalition and hold subcommittee workgroups during the off-months. Members can participate as their time allows and help shape programming, events, and outreach in the community. A full schedule of meetings and events is available on our website.
